Our Commitment to Community and Technology
At Green Custard, we believe in the power of innovation and the importance of nurturing the next generation of tech enthusiasts. Our commitment to community support and corporate social responsibility is reflected in two impactful programs aimed at young minds: our week-long software engineering work experience placements run throughout the school holidays for local secondary school students, and our coveted summer internship for college students.
Fostering Passion for Technology
Software Engineering Work Experience Placements
Each year, Green Custard opens its doors to a small number of bright and eager students from local secondary schools. These week-long work experience placements provide an immersive introduction to software engineering, IoT innovation, and digital transformation, all exclusively on the AWS platform. We see this as an opportunity to impart technical skills and ignite a passion for technology that can shape their future careers.
Our experienced team guides these students through real-world projects, offering a first-hand experience of the challenges and excitement that come with working in a leading professional services software consultancy. Projects are based on experience and skill and range from simple game programming to working on customer projects. We aim to demystify the tech industry, making it accessible and inspiring for young minds who may be contemplating their future career paths.
Summer Internships
For college students seeking a deeper dive into the tech realm, Green Custard hosts an annual summer internship. This program is designed for those eager to explore the intricacies of IoT innovation and digital transformation on a larger scale. It's not just about getting hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies; it's about being part of a dynamic team and contributing to projects that have a real impact.
Check out some of our success stories
Lynton Onwuchekwa
Lynton is a sixth-form student who completed a week-long work experience placement with Green Custard. Gavin (Head of Resourcing) assigned Lynton a project to build a Pac-Man replica from scratch.
Tahlia Clovis
Tahlia is a sixth-form student who spent a week on a work experience placement with Green Custard. Tahlia worked closely with Gavin to develop not only her knowledge of Python but also her approach to problem-solving and project planning.
James Bryan
James is an undergraduate aerospace engineering student at the University of Sheffield who undertook a six-week summer internship with Green Custard. James spent 2 weeks developing and configuring the UI for the ‘Beyond the Bottle’ tap in an Android development environment. James collaborated closely with Gavin to gain valuable experience in UI development but also experience working on larger projects and the workflow in this environment.
A Wider Theme of Community Support and CSR
Beyond the individual development of these students, our programs align with a broader theme of community support and corporate social responsibility (CSR). By investing in the education and professional growth of young people, we contribute to building a robust and innovative community.
Our initiatives go beyond the confines of our office walls. This October, we are participating in Springwood High School’s Futures Event, inspiring year 10, year 11 and sixth-form students about career and internship opportunities they may not have considered.
By collaborating with local schools and colleges, we strengthen ties with the community, fostering a sense of shared purpose. We envision a future where our interns and work experience participants become leaders, driving positive change in the tech industry and beyond.
Diversity and inclusion
We have been blessed to have students of colour, different cultural backgrounds and females join us. We recognise that women in general are underrepresented within the Tech industry and that changing this will start with sharing the excitement around tech with female students.
Join Us in Shaping the Future
At Green Custard, our commitment to community support and CSR is not just a checkbox; it's a philosophy that guides our actions. We invite students, educators, and technology enthusiasts to join us in shaping the future. Whether you're a budding software engineer or someone passionate about fostering innovation, let's work together to build a community where technology is a force for positive change. Together, we can unlock the potential of the next generation and create a brighter, more innovative future for all.
