The Royal Society of Chemistry is the world’s leading chemistry community. With the concept for a new app called “Places of Chemistry” they requested tenders, selecting GC after a thorough selection process.
The Places of Chemistry project was an important project for the Royal Society of Chemistry. They were working on an extensive rebranding exercise that was due to go public in a number of months’ time, and wanted the Places of Chemistry app to be the first project to embrace the new branding. It was critical that it was a shining example of the new brand.
The App is a geo-locating app showing places of historical significance for chemistry. The requirement was for users to be able to browse multimedia content and find places of interest near their current location. Furthermore, the content (text, pictures, and audio guides) had to be maintainable by the Royal Society of Chemistry themselves, with the App automatically syncing with the latest content
The Royal Society of Chemistry chose GC as their development partner because of the depth of knowledge and experience they brought to the project. GC was able to advise on all aspects of the project including: solution architecture, best practice User Interface design, app marketing and analytics, app stores, maintenance and post launch support.
GC’s graphic designers worked closely with the Royal Society of Chemistry to storyboard the app, and create all the imagery needed for the app. Close collaboration was required between GC and the client because the rebrand was new to all concerned, and the app had to be exemplary.
At the same time, GC’s engineering team architected a solution that met the technical requirements of the project, choosing a content management system (Drupal) that could deliver content to both HTML 5 browsers, and iOS/Android apps.
GC are expert on both native app development, and platform agnostic app frameworks. For this project GC recommended the client use native iOS and Android apps, to offer the very best end user experience. It was critical that the quality of the app matched the world class reputation of the Royal Society of Chemistry
“GC have been a great partner throughout this project. They worked hard to really understand our needs, gave constant support and guidance, and found the best solution to deliver a high-quality app that we’re very proud of. GC translated a good idea into a fantastic product.“
